Celebrating Failure

Our friend, Thomas Edison, once remarked -- rather famously! -- that he didn't fail to invent the lightbulb 1,000 times. No! He just discovered 1,000 ways that didn't work.
In this exercise, bare your soul!

1)I failed this semester multiple times in many different areas. I failed at work, at home, and in my classes. It is always tough when you fail and is generally a large disappoint to yourself and those involved. The particular instance I am discussing in this post is when I failed to complete an assignment in my business law class. I completed the initial portion of a term paper that was for extra credit or was to replace a poor exam grade; however, I neglected to complete the next portion of the paper as I forgot the due date. It was an extremely disappointing moment and could have very negative impacts on my grade in the class.

2)I learned that I need to be more organized with my school and work life. Too often I have missed an assignment or fallen behind at work because I am unorganized. I plan to utilize the calendar app on my phone to organize my school assignments and my work and calendar appointments.

3) Failure is hard, it is also a fantastic learning experience. Failure can either let you down and hold you back, or it can help you, motivate you, and provide the passion you need to excel and succeed in life and business ventures. This class has really helped to accept failure and learn that you can use failure to succeed. This class has shown my to not allow failure to affect my emotions, but has empowered me to input more time and organization into my business and school venture.

  1. Hey Ethan,

I think its important that you recognized that you need to increase your organizational skills. Understanding what you need to improve upon is one of the first steps in understanding where to go next. I agree that failure cannot affect your emotions, but that it needs to motivate you to do better in the future. Overall great post, keep up the good work!

  3. Hi Ethan,
Great work on this assignment. Talking about how you failed must have been very hard for you, but realizing what you did wrong and the possibility of growing from the failure is always a great thing! Great work! 4. Ethan, I definitely have had moments of failure similar to yours. Forgetting due dates happened to me all of the time last year and at first it absolutely hurts to realize you won't pick up those points for the class. It is super important to realize that you can't dwell on the failure and just keep pushing forward. I definitely think you realize this and do this! Great job.
